What's New at the Taber Museum?

The weekend before Thanksgiving was anything but slow at the Taber Museum. Not only was the Museum one of the stops on the Preservation Williamsport Victorian Christmas tour, but the Community Room was alive the sounds of toy trains from the Will Huffman Toy Train Expo.

The newly acquired Tall Case Clock was purchased by the Williamsport National Bank for the Board Room of the Bank in 1918. It was through the generosity of the BB&T Bank that the clock now resides permanently at the Lycoming County Historical Society.

The Taber Museum has accepted a gift from James Messner of Williamsport, of a 1926 Studebaker . The vehicle is on display at Williamsport's Peter Herdic Transportation Museum.

Through the generosity of Mrs. Joyce Lundy Rhodes and her brother Dr. Donald R. Lundy, Jr., the Lycoming County Historical Society has received a number of items from the former veterinary office of the senior Dr. Lundy.

The lobby of Williamsport City Hall now contains a display of "Harvest" themed articles from the collection of the Taber Museum.

With the Lycoming County Fair now part of history, the mystery artifact presented by the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society can be revealed. It was a frog gig, using for spearing and catching frogs

The museum recently received a bust of George Washington, courtesy of Susan G.S. Anderson, D.M.D., and her husband Dan Llewellyn. The bust is a bronze casting of a wood carving created by Master Cabinetmaker Eugene (Gene) Landon in 2006.

The Taber Museum has produced a limited edition, enameled pin highlighting the heritage of Little League Baseball and the heritage of ‘the wheel’, commonly referred to as a bicycle.

The Lycoming County Historical Society has recently acquired a tall case (grandfather) clock from the BB&T Bank in Williamsport.

The Richard L. and Miriam L (Swan) Mix Student Historian Award was established in 2016, to recognize the high school senior who submitted the best essay concerning an object in the Taber Museum. The 2017 award winner was Beatrice Ferguson of Jersey Shore High School.

The Lycoming County Historical Society recognized its volunteer of the year at the 2017 Annual Meeting. Alicia Skeath was the choice.

In the Spring of 2017, Taber Museum featured class photographs from South Williamsport High School in its Community Room. The exhibit was well received.

Among the improvements we have made to the museum is the addition of a cell in the Twentieth Century Room.

The Lycoming County Historical Society participated in Raise the Region 2017 between March 8 and March 9. A total of $2,072.33 was raised to support the mission of the Historical Society.

The Taber Museum hosted Barry Stocker, on November 10, 2016 as part of its Lecture Series to talk about Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Bands in the Civil War.
