Robert E. Lee, III, was the guest speaker at an October 2023 Society Program, speaking on his experiences of digging privy pits and the interesting finds he has found.

The privy, or outhouse, was often used to discard unwanted items and often the repository for loosely-handled items like marbles, dolls and even false teeth! Lee has worked on over four hundred outhouse digs and will bring a number of interesting artifacts, including his latest find. He also serves as the potter at the Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Days, demonstrating techniques used on the potter’s wheel. He is inspired by “the love of pottery and the history beneath our feet (Outhouse digs) and the historic stories they each share.”

The lecture, was sponsored by Van Campen Motors.
