The Taber Museum hosted Shannon Jones at its Society Program on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
Shannon Jones released her book on Susquehanna Lore, about the folklore and history of the Susquehanna River and Valley, in 2019. Her remarks focused on the content of the book.
Shannon Jones is a folklorist and botanical historian based out of the Appalachian Mountains. She has lived in both Central Pennsylvania and in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina. Shannon earned a Masters in Early European History from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She followed her master’s degree with courses on Magic in the Middle Ages from the University of Barcelona and on Herbal Medicine 101 from the University of Minnesota.Shannon is also the creator and historical researcher for SJ Histories, through which she creates lectures and classes on both folklore and the historical uses of plants. She has plans on releasing more regional folklore books, as well as a book detailing the Colonial history of plants.
