The Taber Museum hosted its Society Program on Sunday, July 19, 2026, with an appearance by Women of the Revolution. Mercy Otis Warren will be portrayed by Kathleen Houser and Abigail Adams will be portrayed by Susan Guinter. In addition, Ms. Guinter will be portraying Anne Whitfield, a fictional Loyalist.
Women of the Revolution was a 50-60 minute living history performance that brought the women of America’s Revolutionary era to life. Through dramatic monologues, historical dialogue and authentic quotations, the large audience at the Taber Museum met these historical figures, as they explored the challenges, sacrifices and contributions of women on both the Patriot and Loyalist sides of the Revolution. The two women are local actors with combined theatre experience of more than 80 years.
Abigail Adams was the wife of President John Adams and her frequent correspondence and conversations with her husband admonished John to ‘Remember the Ladies’. Mercy Otis Warren was an activist poet, playwright, and pamphleteer during the American Revolution. Her writings before the Revolution spoke out against British authority in Massachusetts and urged colonists to resist infringements on colonial rights and liberties. Presenting the opposing point of view, the fictional Anne Whitfield will urge loyalty to the British crown.
The Lecture Series which continues throughout the year is sponsored by Catherine Burns Insurance Services, Muncy. As well, the Series is co-sponsored by a Travel and Tourism Grant from the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau. The Lecture Series features a number of exciting programs and reenactors to celebrate the history and heritage of the country’s 250th birthday.
