The Taber Museum was pleased to host its first Coffee Hour of the 2025 season on Thursday, March 13th at 10am, with a talk by Dr. Christopher Pearl, faculty member of Lycoming College. He spoke on his recently-published book Declarations of Independence: Indigenous Resilience, Colonial Rivalries, and the Cost of Revolution (The Revolutionary Age).
On July 4, 1776, two hundred miles northwest of Philadelphia, on Indigenous land along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, a group of colonial squatters declared their independence. Known as the ‘Pine Creek Declaration of Independence’, this document was drafted by the Fair Play Men and, of course, is overshadowed by the Declaration of Independence drafted in Philadelphia on the same date. Guests will enjoy this fascinating segment of history!
Dr Pearl spoke of these events at the well attended lecture. Copies of his book were available for purchase, after the lecture.
