The Taber Museum hosted Carol Sones Shetler at its September coffee hour. Carol spoke to 47 visitors on the cultural history of handkerchieves. She delighted the guests with anecdotes, personal stories, history, techniques and much more.
Carol Sones Shetler is a retired writer, having written for the Muncy Luminary and West Branch Life for twenty-three years. She is a native of Moreland Township, growing up within a farming community. In 1980, Carol began working on her family history, prompting her to join a number of historical and genealogical societies. In 1994, quilting became an abiding interest, realizing that family history and quilting often overlapped. Handkerchieves are sometimes employed in the creation of quilts. Often embellished with embroidery or edged with lace, crocheting or tatting, they are not only a necessity, but also provided a fashion statement for the person who carried it.
