Masten Talk

The Taber Museum hosted author David Richards at its well-attended Coffee Hour on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Masten: Lumber Giant, Charles W. Sones and the Story of a Pennsylvania Lumber Ghost Town, 1906-1930.

David L. Richards, former Taber employee and Picture Rocks native, has published the extensively researched book: Masten: Lumber Giant, Charles W. Sones and the Story of a Pennsylvania Lumber Ghost Town, 1906-1930. Richards recounted the rise and fall of the town of Masten, which at one time boasted “two sawmills, a clothespin factory, a lath mill and nearly a thousand people.” Today only old foundations, concrete slabs and assorted relics remain of the once prospering boomtown. David is also the author of Civil War Tales of Lycoming County and north-central Pennsylvania. He is a licensed Battlefield tour guide at Gettysburg.

After the lecture, David signed copies of his books for guests.

The Lecture Series is sponsored by Van Campen Motors.
