Dates: Saturdays, April 5, 12 and 19, 2025
Times: 11 a.m. —3:30 p.m. (you are welcome to bring drink and snacks)

Register: call the Museum at 570-326-3326
Each day will begin with a close-up view and discussion of antique quilts from the Museum’s collection.
Session 1/April 5: We will start the day by learning to paint flowers on fancy fabrics, based on the Museum’s quilts. Paints and brushes will be supplied. While the paint dries, we will start foundation piecing the fan blocks that are at the ends of the table runner. At least one of the fan blocks must be completed and ready for Session 2.
Session 2/April 12: Students will learn a couple of basic embroidery stitches that are typical on Crazy Quilts. I will have several embroidery books on hand for students to look through and find other stitches to try. The embroidery will be used to embellish and construct the fan blocks, and add names, initials, dates, birds, flowers, spider webs, etc. to the body of the quilt, including Haley’s Comet that appears on one of the Museum’s quilts.
Session 3/ApriI 19: Students will do the random cutting and arrangement of the “crazy” part of their table runner. NOTE: If you want a table runner that is a different shape (round, square, oval, etc.), you can do that… we can figure it out… measure your table! Students are encouraged to bring their own supplies and tools. A task light and extension cord is a must. You will need muslin for foundation construction: 2 squares of muslin 18” x 18”, and muslin for the entire table runner measuring 22” x 62” (or whatever shape and size you want, adding 4” all around). As usual, I will have lots of supplies to share, but if you have fancy fabrics (silk, velvet, poly lining fabric, old ties, lightweight upholstery fabric), embroidery floss, hoops, etc., bring them.

DON’T BE INTIMIDATED.... WE WILL METHODICALLY WALK THROUGH EACH TECHNIQUE... YOU CAN DO THIS!
