Declarations of Independence: Indigenous Resilience, Colonial Rivalries, and the Cost of Revolution (The Revolutionary Age)The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will host its first Coffee Hour of the 2025 season on Thursday, March 13th at 10am, with a talk by Dr. Christopher Pearl, faculty member of Lycoming College. He will be speaking on his recently-published book Declarations of Independence: Indigenous Resilience, Colonial Rivalries, and the Cost of Revolution (The Revolutionary Age).

On July 4, 1776, two hundred miles northwest of Philadelphia, on Indigenous land along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, a group of colonial squatters declared their independence. Known as the ‘Pine Creek Declaration of Independence’, this document was drafted by the Fair Play Men and, of course, is overshadowed by the Declaration of Independence drafted in Philadelphia on the same date. Guests will enjoy this fascinating segment of history! Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

The lecture will be held in the Community Room of the Taber Museum and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments are served. The museum is located at 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport. There is ample parking behind the museum as well as on the street. For further information about the museum, please call 570.326.3326.
