The Lycoming County Historical Society will continue its 2017 Lecture Series on Thursday, April 13, at a Coffee Hour held at 10am in the Community Room of its Taber Museum. The focus of the lecture will be an illustrated history of Williamsport’s Millionaires’ Row as presented by Thad Meckley.A native of Williamsport, Meckley is well-qualified to deliver this lecture. He is the author of Williamsport’s Millionaires’ Row and Williamsport, both produced by Arcadia Publishers. As well, Meckley serves as the publisher of the magazine Williamsport Living. He will be sharing some of his vast local postcard collection to illustrate the talk.

Thad lives in Williamsport with his wife Holly & his two daughters, Ella and Cora, in an 1870s Victorian double with simple Italianate features. He recently completed two day-long tours of Millionaires’ Row and historic Wildwood Cemetery with one hundred Loyalsock Middle School 6th graders, visiting Millionaires’ Row homes, buildings, and churches, including 522 West Fourth Street, the Hiram Rhoads Mansion, and Peter Herdic’s grave.

Meckley is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), obtaining two B.A. degrees ~ History & Journalism ~ with a Minor in German, becoming a member of the German National Honors Society, and a concentration in Communications Media.

The Lecture Series focuses on ‘Communities’ for the 2017 season, combining Coffee Hours (Thursday mornings at 10am, March through June, September through December) with Society Programs (Sunday afternoons at 2pm, May through October). A total of fourteen lectures are presented throughout the year. All are free and open to the public. Light refreshments are served for the Coffee Hours. Other subjects will include Cogan House, Montoursville, Eagles Mere, Lewis Township, and Williamsport.
