Teddy Bear OrnamentWilliamsport- The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society is seeking the loan of your Teddy Bear! Entitled ‘Spirit of Love’: Teddies at the Taber will be the holiday exhibit at the museum, premiering on Friday, December 6, 2024, and remaining open through Saturday, January 11, 2025. We promise that we will not let them escape, nor will we overfeed them!

Last time the Taber Museum produced this exhibit (2012), we hosted over one hundred bears - each one cute and charming in his or her own way! Some were dog-eared (well, bear-eared) and some were pristine and never out of the boxes. If there is a story behind the bear, please share it with us!

Continuing the theme of teddy bears, our Museum Store will feature a holiday greeting card with a teddy bear on its cover. The card depicts the childhood teddy bear of our namesake Thomas T. Taber III. The bear is reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’, a booklet distributed by the L.L. Stearns Department Store.

In addition to the exhibit, the Taber Museum will once again hold an Ornament Sale for the benefit of our membership as well as the public at large. Coordinated by our Volunteer of the Year (2024) Deb Parsons, the sale will include the work of eleven talented artists- Becky Charles, Deb Parsons, Mike Swanger, Amanda Emig, Lisa Bitler, Perry Bassler, Judy Steinhilper, Theresa Phillips, Victoria Stetts, Catheal Weiser, and Jackie Thomas.

The featured artist this year is Becky Charles who has produced a miniature teddy bear. The ‘Spirit of Love’ teddy bear will be further enhanced with a crocheted scarf and a glass heart. The ornament has been produced in limited numbers as are all of the ornaments featured. Members of the Lycoming County Historical Society will have the opportunity to shop on the night of Friday, December 6, from 6:00pm until 7:00pm. The Ornament Sale will remain open from 7:00pm until 8:30pm, with the general public invited to shop. The Ornament Sale will continue on Saturday, December 7, 11am until 4pm, and Sunday, December 8, 1pm until 4pm. During these hours, the holiday exhibit featuring teddy bears will be open for touring. A few ornaments from past Ornament Sales will be available.

The Museum is located at 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport. Ample parking may be found in the parking lot behind the building or on the street. For further information, please call at 570.326.3326.
