Williamsport- The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society announces its second in a series of quilt study days, planned to give attendees an up close and personal look at vintage quilts in the Taber Museum collection. The quilt study will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 12 noon until 3:30pm. Cost is $15 per Taber Museum member and $25 per non-member. The quilt study day is organized by Ricki Moler, Museum volunteer and long-time student of antique quilts. The quilt study will be held in the Community Room of the Taber Museum, which is located at 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport. Ample parking is to be found behind the museum and on the street.
Honeycomb, Mosaic, Grandmother’s Flower Garden are all names for quilts made with hexagon-shaped fabric pieces. In the first half of this Quilt Study Day, according to Ricki, “we will have a close look at hexagon quilts from the Museum’s collection, plus other related vintage quilts. The second half of the day will be spent learning the very accurate hand technique known as English Paper Piecing, used for so many early quilts in England and Colonial America, and especially helpful for challenging patterns like hexagons. If time permits, we will also look at the hand-piecing technique more common in the Grandmother’s Flower Garden era.”
