Williamsport- The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will be hosting local historians Matt Stackhouse and David Richards, who have recently produced Ghost on the Allegheny: Dr. Howard M. Essick and the Hotel Essick, 1889- 1916 on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 2pm. The lecture, held in the Community Room of the museum, is free and open to the public. The program is sponsored by Van Campen Motors.
The volume they will discuss is a revised reprint of the book. Long out of print, this is a second edition with 16 additional pages. The book tells the story of the Hotel Essick and the man with a vision who built this luxury resort hotel located in east Lycoming County at the turn of the twentieth century. With the arrival of the Victorian Age, professional people had money and time to enjoy periods of leisure that had not before been possible, and the Hotel Essick enjoyed the fruits of this new trend. The book retails for $19.99 plus PA tax and is available in the Museum Store.
As this is our Society Program, admission to the museum will be free. The third Sunday of each month, May through October, is free admission day.
