“The Old 11th” Explored At The Taber Museum

The October Coffee Hour of the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society featured Wayne Sager speaking on “The Old 11th”. The talk, free and open to the public, was held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 10 am in the Community Room. Light refreshments were served.

“The Old 11th: The Life Story of a Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment serving during the American Civil War” was the topic of Sager’s speech. A longtime Muncy resident, Sager is well-qualified to discuss Civil War topics, both from standpoints of academic qualifications and avocational pursuits. He has had a life-long interest in military history, especially the American Civil War. He possesses a Bachelor of Science (Agronomy) from Penn State and a Master of Arts in History from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His Master’s thesis studied civil-military relations in Pennsylvania during the Gettysburg campaign.

Wayne is a US army retiree with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, AUS. His twenty-two years of military service included two tours of duty in Vietnam and one of Germany. During fourteen years of active duty, he served as an ROTC instructor, and has taught, among other topics, American Military History. Over the years, his hobbies have increased his depth of understanding of the life of the Civil War soldier. He has been an occasional reenactor, most recently at the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. He recently marked his 50th year of shooting competition with Civil War firearms, in the North-South Skirmish Association. He is ranked as a Distinguished Shooter in the Carbine category.
