Coffee Hour program: “American Indian Sports Mascots: Much Ado about Something”

October 29, 2014; Williamsport –  Ned Coates, a Pennsylvania native and retired professor, presents the program American Indian Sports Mascots: Much Ado about Something for the Lycoming County Historical Society’s History Coffee Hour on Thursday, November 13, 2014.  The program begins at 10:00 a.m. in the community room of the Thomas T. Taber Museum, 858 West Fourth Street in Williamsport.

Mr. Coates retired as Professor of English after thirty eight years of teaching at the Williamsport Area Community College/Penn College.  He received his BA from Susquehanna University and received his Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Arkansas.  During his career, he taught American Indian related courses including American Indian Literature and American Indian Perspectives.  He furthered his own education through sabbatical, workshops and travels to learn from American Indian leaders and spokespersons in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
