“Pride and Pedigree”

A Tour of Homes, Churches & Museums

Saturday, November 21, 2015

9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Presented by Preservation Williamsport

Come experience Williamsport’s rich heritage in the heart of Millionaire’s Row, the Historic District! These homes have great architectural interest and detail, some with modern adaptations, some with historical significance and some with legendary interest.

The theme “Pride & Pedigree” highlights the change in the relationship between animals and their owners from working livestock to adored family pets during the Victorian Era. Pets were valued for companionship and prized for their appearance instead of the labor they performed. This era saw a shift in the pet industry through the breeding of pure-breeds and the establishment of kennel clubs. It was also the beginning of animal rights through organizations like the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
